Sony’s Star India programme to announce first games on PS5 early next year

In an interview with IGN Japan at the recent Game Developers Conference India, Sony’s Head of Third Party Hector Fernandes and Star India Programme Manager Sujith Sukumaran revealed the latest developments regarding the programme. “First announced in May 2023, the Star India programme is a sister programme to the already successful Star China programme, and is designed to support Indian developers who want to launch PS5 games.

The Star India team has been demoing and taking suggestions, and is set to announce the first PS5 games between February and April 2024, according to reports.
Sujith Sukumaran explains, “With this project, we want to show the world the talent of Indian developers. We want to attract the people of India to fully support their development and showcase their games to the world. We also want to provide the developers with the skills and knowledge that Sony has cultivated around the world, as well as the experience of developing commercially successful console games”. Of the proposals received so far, adventure games were the most popular, followed by first-person and third-person shooters.
